Science Meets Fun on National Biomechanics Day

The American Society of Biomechanics (ASB) is celebrating their 3rd annual National Biomechanics Day (NBD) on April 11th, 2018 and Tekscan is proud to be a sponsor of this effort. This year’s theme is “Science Meets Fun”, and we’re certainly enjoying being a part of the biomechanics world.

The pressure measurement systems we develop have applications in gait analysis, balance assessment, foot function, and more, so we are always interested in helping others explore this type of technology.

National Biomechanics Day is a world-wide celebration of Biomechanics in its many forms for high school students and teachers. As a fundamental example of STEM and STEAM educational initiatives, biomechanics combine science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics into one awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping, human-enhancing, creative endeavor. Students love it, are amazed by it, and are drawn to it. Each of the previous National Biomechanics Days have elicited more excitement and more smiles in science labs around the world than most people would think possible.

To help support continued awareness and education in this ever-evolving field, we’d like to share a few resources of our own.

Pressure Measurement in the Gait Lab

Gait labs contain many different types of technology including force plates, motion capture, and EMG systems–a playground for biomechanics!  In this ebook, learn about Tekscan Pressure Measurement Systems, how this technology fits into the world of biomechanics, and how objective and quantifiable data can enhance research and evaluations in the gait lab.

World Congress of Biomechanics

We’ll be exhibiting at the 8th World Congress of Biomechanics in Dublin, Ireland this July. This event is held once every 4 years and is the premier meeting worldwide in its field. Several thought leaders will be presenting fascinating research and ideas, and we’re excited to be a part of it.

We’ll be in booth #17, and hope to see you there!
