Mechanical Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to drive the mechanical design of new products. This role will work with electrical engineers, sensor designers, manufacturing, and product management to develop components for instrumentation systems. This position requires an individual with strong design skills, who can take a concept through the prototyping process to product release with critical documentation for industrialization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and analyze electronic packaging and mechanical interface systems for thin, flexible tactile sensor applications with considerations for thermal stress, electromagnetic interference, shock, vibration, regulatory compliance, testing, etc.
- Design for plastic molding, utilizing 3-D solid modeling tools such as Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, OnShape, etc. and FEA tools such as COSMOS.
- Interact across departments to understand design criteria and present engineering solutions in design reviews.
- Manage BOMs and components in ERP
- Comply with ISO requirements when executing engineering changes on products
- Communicate with vendors to source prototype materials.
- Design activities will be coordinated with electrical engineers and production to ensure that designs meet requirements at minimum cost.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or related engineering field.
- 5+ years experience in electro-mechanical product design
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot mechanical design and system performance issues, implement and report root cause analysis, develop project plans and cost estimates
- Extensive 3D CAD experience (must like working with CAD)
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States
Skills
- Solid design and analysis experience in mechanical and electromechanical systems; ability to perform mechanical design activity and participate in projects as technical project lead and direct contributor to a cross-functional team
- Experience and understanding of electronics design such as PCB and associated components for electronics packaging
- Ability to establish specifications and requirements for mechanical components
- Knowledge of injection molded process utilizing 3-D CAD models
- Knowledge of sheet metal, machine design, fabrication and manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of thermal analysis, pneumatics and fluid mechanics to build pressure vessels
- Advanced CAD tools utilization skills to create CAD models of plastic injection molded parts, sheet metal parts, aluminum extrusions, OEM parts and assemblies
- Ability to generate and archive CAD drawings, ECO, and BOM documents
- Knowledge of procedural, compliance and ISO documentation organization requirements
- Knowledge of materials and their properties to be utilized for medical and industrial applications
- Ability to plan, build and run bench testing and verification of developed prototypes
- Experience with data acquisition/analysis platforms such as MatLab and LabView
- Experience with microcontrollers and systems such as Arduino, RaspberryPi, ESP32, etc.
- Ability to operate machine shop equipment and other rapid prototyping tools (3D printing)
