Walkway™ System

multi-step barefoot analysis

Low profile floor walkway system that captures multiple sequential foot strikes of humans and animals.

<em>Walkway</em>™ System

Walkway Barefoot Pressure MeasurementWalkway Pressure Mapping System Features:

  • Customizable low profile floor mat system that captures multiple sequential footsteps for analysis of foot function and gait. Provides data for objective and quantified analysis that is used to answer clinical and research related questions

  • Modular design allows you to choose the system sensing area and sensor resolution

  • Provides automated calculation of an array of gait parameters

  • Individual stances (foot strikes) are automatically detected and labeled as left or right and numbered from first to last stance

  • Foot segmentation is applied to calculate toe-in or toe-out angle, compared to the line of progression

  • Calculates values for step and gait time, distance, velocity, and cadence

  • Provides individual data for the left and right foot in regards to the gait cycle, step-stride parameters, and symmetry scores

  • Provides differential data between left and right feet

  • In the clinic, it is used to make assessments and determine treatment for pathomechanical and neuromuscular foot and gait affecting disorders (such as Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons, and Spasticity) as well as diabetes-related issues such as pressure sores and ulcers

  • In research, it is used to investigate a treatment hypothesis for pathomechanical and neuromuscular foot and gait disorders, and to assess the efficiency of a proposed treatment

  • USB Connection

  • Scanning speed of 100 Hz (Evolution) or 440 Hz (VersaTek) with the standard resolution sensor

  • Scanning speed of 185 Hz with VersaTek electronics and the high resolution sensor

Benefits of Pressure Mapping:

  • Save time capturing multiple foot strikes (reduction of trials)

  • Reduce incidence of ulcers

  • Supporting documentation for fee-for-service approach and/or insurance claims

  • Use as an educational tool to teach rehabilitation exercises for the lower limb

  • Tangible, visible biofeedback for the client which increases compliance

A Tekscan system consists of scanning electronics, software, and patented thin-film sensors. The Walkway system is configurable based on your application requirements.

Walkway Components

Evolution Handles or VersaTek Cuffs - every Tekscan system uses specially designed scanning electronics called Handles or Cuffs. The electronics connect to the sensor, gather the data from the sensor, and then process and send this data to your computer via USB connection.

Walkway Floor Display with protective channel, pre-assembled with sensors at the factory

VersaTek 2-Port Hub(s)- (VersaTek systems only)

Powered USB Hub

  • Shown are pressure profiles and tabulated gait parameters.

  • The Walkway System captures multiple foot strikes in both adults and children. See front and side angles of a pediatric gait analysis test with the Walkway System as well as the display of pressure profiles. The Walkway provides dynamic and static pressure data for gait analysis and the prevention and management of pressure-related foot problems.

  • The Walkway software has numerous tables for evaluating gait. They include a Gait Table, Gait Cycle Table, Differential Table, Step-Stride Table and Symmetry Table (not shown).

  • One of the many parameters the Walkway software calculates is Symmetry. Above is a Symmetry Table for a subject with flat feet.

  • Foot Segmentation is applied to calculate temporal (time-based) parameters such as heel contact time and propulsion time.

Walkway Software Features:

  • Display 2-D and 3-D real-time and recorded data
  • Automatic calculation of gait parameters and display in tables
    • Gait Table: Shows key values for an entire gait cycle
    • Gait Cycle Table and Step-Stride Table: Provides individual data for each foot, and differences between the feet (right minus left)
    • Symmetry Table: Provides a symmetry score (or index) between left and right sides (in %)
    • Differential Table: Provides comparative of differences between left and right sides
  • Display pressure and force curves over time
  • Foot segmentation is applied to calculate temporal parameters, such as heel contact and propulsion time
  • Automatic stance detection and validation by user
  • Shows averaged pressure profile display for selected multiple foot strikes
  • Side-by-side comparisons of pre- and post-treatment conditions
  • Frame by frame, single, and multi-stance phase displays
  • Pressure profiles can be shared with others in *.avi format
  • Isolate and analyze specific areas of plantar foot
  • Import and export client movie files
  • Display Center of Force and its trajectory

The software is available in several languages including Spanish, French and German. View software languages available.

Walkway System Applications:

  • Quantify foot function gait patterns over several strides
  • Identify plantar pressure profile discrepancies between left and right feet
  • Identify asymmetries during stance phase
  • Screen for areas of potential ulcerations
  • Monitor improvements in strength & weight bearing
  • Assess high pressures and deviated Center of Force trajectories due to foot dysfunction and/or gait related disorders
