I-Scan® Handheld System
portable pressure measurement
Handheld pressure measurement system for collecting tactile pressure data.
Portable Pressure Mapping
I-Scan Handheld is a lightweight, PDA system that allows for quick interface pressure measurements on site or on the field and assembly line. I-Scan Handheld can be used as an individual system or can be added to the standard I-Scan pressure mapping system for increased flexibility.
Key I-Scan Handheld Features:
- Lightweight and portable
- Simple, easy to use software
- Battery powered from PDA, no external power needed
- Data collection and presentation is performed on the PDA
- Durable and reusable pressure sensors
- Scanning rate of up to 75 Hz
- Real-time refresh rate of 10 Hz
- Snapshots of pressure distribution
A Tekscan system consists of scanning electronics, software, and patented thin-film, tactile pressure sensors. To learn more about our scanning electronics and sensor performance specifications, please visit our Sensor Technology page. Our qualified engineers will help you select the optimal system configuration to meet your application requirements.
I-Scan Handheld Components:
(1) Evolution® Handle - Every Tekscan system uses specially designed scanning electronics called Handles or Cuffs. The electronics connect to the sensor, gather the data from the sensor, and then process and send this data to your computer via USB connection.

Choose from a variety of Pressure Sensors
I-Scan Handheld is available with your choice of pressure sensors. Three of the most common selections are displayed below. Over 200 different pressure sensors are available. Sensors in our catalog can be created to accommodate high temperature applications (up to 400° F). Custom tactile pressure sensors and pressure ranges can also be created to meet your specific application requirements.

I-Scan Handheld Software Options
Basic software is a subset of classic I-Scan (PC based), providing relative measurements. Basic software is also intended for organizations that have classic I-Scan operating on a PC and desire additional systems for field use or more portability. With classic I-Scan operating on a PC with an Evolution® handle, calibration and equilibration data can be downloaded to a Basic I-Scan Handheld system on the SoMo PDA. After pressure data is captured in the field and stored on the PDA, it can be displayed using classic I-Scan on the PC for more thorough analysis.
Key Features of I-Scan Handheld Basic:
- 2-D display of real-time sensor output
- Displays snapshot of pressure distribution
- Saves snapshot with either automatic file naming or user entered file name
- Screen image saved as *.bmp for use in other programs
- Eight adjustable sensitivity levels - to raise or lower the pressure range of the sensor
- Text comments are saved with data files to document experimental conditions
- Show pressure - average digital output on sensor, and count of sensels at each pressure level (histogram)
- Adjustable color key, averaging, mirroring and rotating sensor image to provide desired view
- And much, much more!
I-Scan Enhanced software adds calibration and equilibration capability and other I-Scan features making I-Scan Handheld Enhanced a powerful stand-alone product.
Additional Features in I-Scan Handheld Enhanced:
- Single-point calibration (linear)
- Two-point calibration (power law)
- Sensor Equilibration (normalization) improves uniformity of sensor response
- Tare offsets initial base load on sensor from dynamic measured load
- Show loaded contact area & total force on sensor
- Center of force on display
The software is available in several languages including Spanish, French and German. View software languages available.
