Prescale™ Pressure Indicating Film Overview
(En Espanol)

Prescale™ film is used to measure contact pressures. The film structure consists of micro-encapsulated color forming and developing material. When pressure is applied to the film, a red color impression is formed in varying density according to the amount of pressure and pressure distribution.

Prescale film is used in applications requiring:
  • static pressure measurements
  • visual pattern of peak pressure
  • one-time use

If your application involves dynamic events or calls for evaluation of pressures over time, our Tactile Pressure Mapping Systems may be a better fit. Find out if Prescale film is right for your application.

How Prescale Pressure Indicating Film Works

Simply place Prescale film between any two surfaces which come into contact. Varying colors of red patches will instantly appear revealing the pressure distribution between the surfaces. The intensity of the red colors of the Prescale film is related to the amount of pressure applied to it; the more intense the color, the greater the pressure. There are seven different film types available ranging from 0.05 to 300 MPa (7.25 to 43,500 PSI). More specifications

The affordability and ease of use of Prescale have prompted its use in endless applications. When pressure is applied, the microcapsules are broken and the color-forming material is released. Through Particle Size Control (PSC) technology, the microcapsules are designed to react to various degrees of pressure, releasing their color-forming material at a density that corresponds to the pressure. For enhanced data analysis of Prescale film, a digital analysis system is also available.
