Senior Software Engineer

Tekscan, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer in the Boston area. Your responsibility will be to participate in the creation of new products and enhancements to existing ones, from concept to after launch support, as part of a small but capable cross-functional team of hardware, firmware, software, and QA engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in research and selection of available technologies for new products
  • Refine specifications and contribute to system architecture decisions
  • Work with hardware and firmware engineers to implement interfaces and protocols
  • Prototype, design, code and test new product features
  • Own parts of the existing C++ code base
  • Develop interface (API) between C++ backend and C# GUI layer

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in CS, EE or equivalent
  • 7+ years software development or programming experience
  • 5+ years of recent experience with C++ including latest C++ standards (03, 14, 17)
  • 2+ years of experience with C# and WPF
  • Application level experience with communication APIs: USB, TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE
  • Proficiency debugging complex hardware and software systems, multithreaded C++ and mixed C++/C# applications
  • Working knowledge of software design patterns and best practices
  • Boy scout mentality of leaving code cleaner than you found it
  • Team player attitude with a willingness for technical leadership when necessary
  • Devotion to continuing self education and evangelizing innovation

Desired experiences:

  • Embedded platforms and microcontrollers (C/C++), e.g. Microchip PIC, Cypress PSoC.
  • Mercurial version control
  • Network communication debugging with WireShark and/or Kismet
  • USB communication debugging with hardware or software USB sniffers
  • Unit testing frameworks: googletest and catch2 for C++, MSTest and NUnit for C#
  • MFC
  • MVVM frameworks, e.g. Caliburn.Micro
  • Asynchronous programming experience, e.g. boost::asio or PPL (Parallel Patterns Library)
  • Windows KMDF USB drivers
