Researchers at Kansas State University are using the Walkway™ system to develop technology that could detect and prevent lameness before it causes serious damage in cattle.

Kansas State uses Walkway to Prevent Lameness in Cows

David Anderson, professor of clinical sciences at Kansas State University, is heading a team of researchers in an effort to create technology that will detect and prevent lameness in cattle before it leads to serious complications or death. Anderson and his team use the Walkway™ animal gait analysis system to develop pressure mapping technology that will allow farmers to monitor a cow’s habits as it walks across the sensors. The lameness can then be treated before it permanently destroys the animal. The cost to farmers treating lameness in cattle can be so high that they are not able to compete strongly in the marketplace. Anderson hopes his work will benefit these farmers and their cattle by keeping the animals stronger and healther.
