Tekscan's Garment System can be used to quickly assess the pressure analysis of support hose and burn garments. Support hose are generally used to aid patients who have poor lower limb circulation. Through the application of a negative pressure gradient (more pressure at the ankle and less at the calf), support hose are able to enhance venous blood flow. When customized support hose are prescribed, a proper "fit" is essential. Using the Garment System, one can assess whether the "fit" produces the proper negative pressure gradient, and if the prescribed pressure is being applied to the leg.

The Garment System comes complete with innovative electronics, Windows-compatible software and appropriate sensors.

In the screen capture above, two measurements were taken of a burn victim's arm. The physician wanted to apply 26 mmHg on the left forearm. After initial testing (Figure 1), the doctor observed that the garment was too loose and the pressure applied was insufficient. After applying a more constrictive garment, another measurement was taken (Figure 2). This measurement confirmed that the proper amount of pressure was being applied to the patient's arm. The graph (Figure 3) confirms the pressure information. The red line in the graph corresponds to Figure 2, in which the garment applied the desired pressure.

By using Tekscan's Garment System, a physician can guarantee that the desired pressure has been achieved and that the garments are properly fitted. An improper fit (too little or too much pressure) can result in skin breakdown, numbness in the extremities, or inadequate pressure application.
