Ensuring Correct Balance of Color & Gloss Measurement Device

The Challenge: X-Rite’s MA98 spectrophotometer is a multi-angle tool which precisely measures the color of metallic, pearlescent and other complex special effect finishes. In order to measure color and finishes accurately, it is important that the light beam from the spectrophotometer is at the specified angle to the measurement surface.

X-Rite’s MA98 Spectrophotometer (above left) contains a three-point custom FlexiForce sensor to ensure proper balance for accurate measurements.

The Solution: Tekscan created a custom FlexiForce^® sensor containing three sensing areas to ensure the device is balanced on the surface, therefore providing accurate, repeatable sample positioning. By measuring the force at three points, the sensor ensures that the beam is at the correct angle. The thin, lightweight, customizable design of the FlexiForce sensor combined with its repeatability (typically +/- 2.5%) helped X-Rite develop an effective color measurement device.

FlexiForce sensors are fully customizable to suit your unique OEM application. Standard sensors are also available for proof of concept, or for a quick, low quantity, R&D solution.
