Where Would
You Adjust?
|
|
There
was a study done at the University of Alberta to analyze the
correlation of force to size of an articulating paper mark. Would you
believe that only 21% of the time did similar loads result
in similar mark area? These findings indicate that size offers no
quantifiable information from which you can reliably deduce which
marks should be adjusted. Therefore, choosing forceful contact marks
based upon mark appearance characteristics is highly error prone.
The study
reported that "it would be impossible for a dentist to correctly
pick the right mark from its size appearance" as there was no
correlation between the size and the color of a mark, to the degree
of occlusal force contained within that mark. This study proves the
need for a more accurate way to measure occlusal contacts. Take
